Happy New Year everyone!

Where we’ve been…

So maybe we’ve been away from posting for a while, but let us assure you it was because we were so busy getting out and being awesome. Here are some highlights from our events this past year!

March – Telling of the Revolutionary Movement

We had a fantastic time at the Lafayette-Durfee House telling tales of “our” ordinary lives in the 1770’s. Thanks for a very thoughtful Q&A from all who attended!

May – MA Military History Expo

If you’ve never been to this amazing history mash-up, we highly recommend it. We got to exhibit between a WWI field hospital and a legion of Roman soldiers!

This event boasts some amazing living history demonstrations of the WWI and WWII era. Not to be outdone, we produced a Revolutionary War-era fort complete with palisade for our demo. (Special thanks to Orange Airport for allowing us to do this!)

Summer 2019

The summer was a whirlwind between practicing our drill on the Hubbardston Town Common, the Hubbardston Memorial Day parade, and the Templeton Reading of the Declaration of Independence. We assisted with the installation of an authentic period herb garden designed by Raven with our friends at the Lafayette-Durfee House. We demonstrated a 1770’s militia unit at American Day in the Park.

September – Revolutionary War demos at The Fort at No. 4

We were so excited to participate again in the demonstrations at the stunning Fort at No. 4 in Charlestown, NH! We marched against the British with the 2nd Mass Regiment, added new cooking and laundry demos to our camp life, and enthralled young and old with 18th century medicine in our fully equipped field hospital!

Thanks so much for following along with us. If you’re a local historical society or another history-loving group and you’d like us to come and speak, let us know!

The Hubbardston Militia at the Minutecubs Event!

Our militia took part in a Boy Scout event designed to recreate a Rev Way encampment and battle for educational purposes. We were part of the colonial militia encampment, and our soldiers marched with other units against the British unit. (Unfortunately we didn’t get any photos of our boys firing their muskets!) Before the battle, we talked to hundreds of Scouts about life in those days.

Our presentation at the New Braintree Historical Society went great!

Seven of us got up and spent about 5 minutes talking in first person about who we were, what we did, and what our lives were like. The stories ranged from farmers to furniture-makers to educated men to indentured servants, and included a Tory for political balance. We all sat at a table on the stage made to look like an inn and drank cider while our compatriots spoke, and then afterwards we had a Q&A.

Then the audience got to look at our items, including the Doctor’s medical kit. Check out the pictures in our media library! If you’re a local historical society or another history-loving group and you’d like us to come to your town and speak, let us know!
